Malik Yoba, an actor and youth activist, was born on September 17, 1967, in the Bronx, New York to Eltan Abdullah Yoba and Mahmouda Young Ranye. As a Sunni Muslim, he developed up in East Harlem. A. Rahman Yoba is his only sibling.

He had an early interest in acting and completed a theatre program in high school. He studied acting at HB Studios in New York with Cynthia Belgrave and is an active member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Yoba graduated in 1989 from The City-As-School in Manhattan, New York.

Career

Yoba was selected as one of the 30 young artists under 30 who would impact American society in the next 30 years by The New York Times in 1994. Yoba began his career on the FOX police drama New York Undercover, opposite Michael DeLorenzo. Yoba and DeLorenzo made history on television. The show was the first police drama on American television to include his two black characters.

Yoba won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama three times for his work in New York’s Undercover, in 1996, 1997, and 1998. In 2001, he launched the Malikuyova Fatherhood Project and the Phi He Beta Sigma Fraternity. Yoba was made an honorary brother in 2009.

Malikuyova was nominated for four awards and won three for Undercover in 1996, 1997, and 1998. He also won the American Black Film Festival Award for “Daddy Don’t” in 2016. go’. In 2017, he received a NAMIC Vision Award nomination for Best Performance in the film Bad Dad Rehab.
